Thanks for using English Skills Cafe. Our goal is to help language learners and organizations to better understand the learners' current abilities and better plan for their further language study. We take very seriously the respect and protection of your privacy and security. We are committed to following best practices to support this principle.

This Privacy Policy is intended to help you understand our practices with respect to the collection, use, and disclosure of information we collect from you through English Skills Cafe’s web application, our websites that link to this Privacy Policy, and any other services we provide to our customers or end users (our "Services"). What Information We Collect

The types of information we collect from you depend on how you use the Services, what Services you use, and what information you choose to provide or make available to us. We collect information from you when you:

  • Create or register an account, and when you administer your account
  • Input information or data into any of our Services
  • Undertake our language ability tests
  • Submit questions, requests, other communications to us via forms, email, or other communication media
  • Contact us for customer support or technical support
  • Visit our website
  • Participate in any promotions, demonstrations, contests, surveys, or other marketing events
  • Interact with other English Skills Cafe users including our Assessors

Customer Information

Information related to the creation of accounts or that otherwise identifies you as a customer or end user of English Skills Cafe is what we call "Customer Information." Customer Information may include certain "personal information", such as your name, email address, gender, location, age and native language. It also may include answers you submit when you are undertaking our language tests. It also may include payment information, such as payment method, credit card information, and any contact information (such as name and postal address) associated with payment billing information. If you are an end user using the Services through an account created on your behalf by an English Skills Cafe customer (such as an employer, school, college, university, or organization of which you are a member, or another individual), we may collect and process Customer Information about you on behalf of the English Skills Cage customer with whom your use of the Services is associated.

When you create an account with English Skills Cafe, we may collect certain Customer Information directly from you, which is required in order for us to provide the personalised Services which we offer. We may also collect information about you if you are using our service at the instruction of another party such as a school, language college, university, employer, education or migration agent or government department or other organisation. Since your actual use of our Services relies on you providing information about you, by choosing to proceed you acknowledge that you have provided this information voluntarily.

Information collected automatically through your use of the Services

  • We collect information about how you use the Services and your actions on the Services, including IP addresses, what software and hardware you use (such as browser types, operating systems, ISPs, platform type, device type), pages or features of English Skills Cafe used and associated dates and time stamps, links you click, whether you open messages sent to your account, and other statistics related to your usage of the Services. We may also use tools, including third-party tools, to collect analytics data. Some of this information is collected through the use of "cookies" and other tracking technologies, such as web beacons, session replay scripts, and similar technologies ("tracking technologies"). We may also work with third party partners to employ tracking technologies.

    We may use cookies, pixel tags, local storage, and other technologies to automatically collect information through the Services.

    Location information

    We will ask you to provide your current location. We use this information to help us with the scheduling of our staff to optimise the Services we provide to you and other Users. We may also use Google Analytics to convert your IP address into a rough geolocation to understand in what areas our users are located and to improve and personalize English Skills Cafe (for example, to display time data in the correct local time).     Aggregated and de-identified information

    We may collect information by aggregating and de-identifying other information. The aggregation and de-identification process prevents the information from being reassociated or identified with any one customer account, user, or individual. We may use aggregated and de-identified information for a wide variety of statistical and analytical purposes.

    How we use the information we collect

    We use the information we collect for a variety of purposes, and how we use it depends on what we collect and what Services you use (or features of the Services). These purposes may include:

    • Fulfilling our contract with you and providing the Services to you, such as:
      • Allowing you to use our Testing Services
      • Utilising your Test Results information together with other Customer Information to create recommendations about your further learning requirements
      • Responding to requests or inquiries from you
      • Providing customer support or technical assistance
      • Contacting you to provide Service updates, information about Services you have requested or purchased, marketing English Skills Cafe services and features that you may be interested in, and monitoring the performance of our advertisements and marketing efforts
      • Creating, managing, or administering your information and account, including identifying you with your account or the account of an English Skills Cafe customer
      • Billing you and processing your financial information and other payment methods for Services purchased
      • Providing access to certain areas, functionalities, and features of our Services
      • Communicating with you about your account, activities on our Services and policy changes
      • Undertaking activities to verify or maintain the quality of a service
      • Providing Services on behalf of our customers, such as maintaining or servicing accounts, providing customer service, and verifying customer information

    Use of Content

    Notwithstanding anything else in this Privacy Policy to the contrary, we will not use or access your Content except in the following cases:

    • for providing the Services to you; where you (or, if you are an end user, the English Skills Cafe customer through which you have an account) explicitly approve access (e.g., during a customer support inquiry);

    • With third-party service providers who enable certain features or functionalities of the Services that you’ve requested (for example, by asking our contracted Assessors to assess your language abilities).
    • With vendors we engage to help us with marketing and email campaigns, to advertise, gain insights, and perform analytics into how the Services are used and how they might be improved.
    • As necessary to comply with applicable law, including governmental requests, law enforcement requests, and otherwise to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of you, us, or others.
    • As necessary in the event of a proposed or actual reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer, financing, or other disposition of all or any portion of English Skills Cafe business, assets, or stock.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies – How to Opt Out

Information from Children

English Skills Cafe is not directed to children under the age of 12 (or other age as required by local law) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
